Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On February 6, 2012, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency considered providing financial assistance to the proponent.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

The proponent intends to purchase an existing manufacturing facility adjacent to their current manufacturing operations in order to increase production and improve efficiencies. The proposed project will involve the purchase and installation of new equipment to increase production and improve efficiencies. The proponent also plans to construct an access road between the two properties that back onto one another to further improve efficiencies. The proposed gravel access road will measure approximately 18m by 122m. Construction will employ standard materials and methods. There are no accessory projects associated with this undertaking.

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
