BLUFFER'S PARK SOUTHWEST HEADLAND AND BEACH MAJOR MAINTENANCE

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is preparing to undertake major maintenance works to rebuild/repair an armourstone headland in Bluffer's Park along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. This shoreline erosion control structure has been monitored
annually by TRCA and recommended for major maintenance works since 2009. Major maintenance of the headland is considered the third and final phase of the Bluffer's
Southwest Headland and Beach Major Maintenance Project. The first two phases were completed between 2016 and 2020.

Phase III (major maintenance works on the headland) will consist of:
1. Placing small armour stone to fill voids on the slope between the existing armour
stone where rip rap is exposed.
2. Placing a single layer of large armour stone on the slope for the entire existing profile.
3. Raising the crest elevation of structure and extending the splash pad into the backshore area.
4. Constructing a shoal off the eastern toe of the headland to reduce energy and improve beach stability.

The purpose of this major maintenance work is to protect and prevent further erosion to the Bluffer's Park shoreline.
