Breakwater Reconstruction, Wedge Point, Yarmouth, NS

The Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada proposes to undertake a breakwater reconstruction project at Wedge Point Harbour, located in the area of Wedge Port, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The reconstruction will consist of the use of heavy equipment such as excavators and haul trucks working from the existing breakwater and cribwork wharf structure as it is being reconstructed.

The existing breakwater crest elevation will be raised to +7.50 m with a width of 5 m using new and existing armourstone. The side slopes of the reconstructed breakwater will be maintained at a 1.5:1 ratio, building outwards and increasing the footprint on the harbour bed where necessary to maintain the desired slope. An access road will be constructed at an elevation of approximately +5.00 m above chart datum on the northern (leeward) side of the breakwater. The road will be 5 m wide and will extend the entire length of the breakwater structure, gradually sloping downwards to +4.50 m at the seaward end.
