Tenas Project

Telkwa Coal Limited is proposing the construction, operation and reclamation of the Tenas Project, a new open-pit coal mine located about 25 kilometres south of Smithers, British Columbia. As proposed, the project would have an estimated production rate of 750,000 – 825,000 tonnes of metallurgical coal per year over a lifespan of about 25 years. The project also includes a rail loadout facility, power line, dedicated coal haul road and improvements to some existing roads.

Latest update

September 24, 2021 — On July 15, 2021, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change received a request to designate the Tenas Project, proposed by Telkwa Coal Limited. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is conducting an analysis and will make a recommendation to the Minister on whether to designate the project under the Impact Assessment Act.
