Parks Canada Agency Backcountry Meadows Prescribed Burn

This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
Jasper National Park Fire Operations is proposing to burn 24 locations throughout the park. These units are predominantly meadows which have had fire excluded from the area and has resulted in tree species to encroach the various meadows.
Fourteen units were previously assessed in accordance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, but 10 units will need to be assessed under a Basic Impact Assessment (BIA) in accordance with the Parks Canada Directive on Impact Assessment, 2019 to further eliminate, control or minimize potential adverse effects. These 10 units are Adolphus, Aztec Meadows, Brazeau Meadows, Caribou Inn, Dean Meadows, Kane Meadows, Rock Creek, Topaz, Willow Creek II and Wolf Pass. Together these units are 3.8 km2.

October 22, 2021 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
