East Point Whale Trail Project, Saturna Island

Saturna Island is one of the Southern Gulf Islands that is part of Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. East Point on Saturna Island is an ideal destination for whale education, as the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales frequent this location on a regular basis. East Point will be officially designated as a whale trail location. The objective is to upgrade the related infrastructure to provide a cohesive visitor offer and to protect culturally and ecologically sensitive areas. Phase one of this project is the development of the trail and associated infrastructure. Phase two's objective is to create an educational node at the lighthouse viewpoint, including interpretive panels, a seating area to facilitate wildlife viewing and a First Nation's piece.
This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
