Rip rap placement and parking area reinforcement

Gracia Financial Corporation is proposing to raise the existing parking area from approximately 2.0 metres to 3.5 metres chart datum (CD) to prevent flooding of the site from high water flood events, and use this area for the development of a gravel parking area with a total footprint of 1,503 square metres.  

The existing shoreline armament, consisting of a band of riprap located in the intertidal zone along the north edge of the property, will be enhanced using riprap revetment to protect the newly raised grade from erosion. The rip rap will cover an area of approximately 374 square metres at a slope of 1.5 metres horizontal distance to 1 metre vertical rise (H:V).   

Habitat Compensation will be implemented by planting riparian vegetation consisting of native trees and shrubs along the north shoreline as well as the western edge of the 9295 River Rd property. In total, habitat compensation will consists of 192 square metres. In addition, an effectiveness monitoring and post-treatment plan will be implemented to determine compensation success.

April 8, 2021 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Rip rap placement and parking area reinforcement, located at 9295 and 9321 River Road, Delta is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by May 7, 2021. .
