Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Heel Storage Removal Project

In support of decommissioning activities at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is planning to remove the remaining heel from a storage tank. The material will be solidified and placed in an on-site storage waste facility. The Project is expected to begin operation in 2022 with all physical activities conducted in accordance with CNL's Environmental Policy and licensing conditions.

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) has determined that the proposed Heel Storage Removal Project at AECL's Chalk River site is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Potential environmental effects will be managed through technically and economically feasible mitigation measures and implemented for the following: air, water, soil and vegetation. Therefore, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
