NAV CANADA - Replacement of Terminal Surveillance Radars for Dorval and Mirabel Airports

The purpose of the project is to install a temporary radar for a two-year period to allow the replacement of existing operational radars for Dorval and Mirabel airports.

The site preparation will include leveling the land and then installing a granular base to support the temporary radar structure. The site as such is located on the south side of runway 06/24 near FEC ‘B'. An electrical and telecommunications installation is required at the site to supply the temporary radar.

Tree cutting will be required for the installation of the temporary radar as well as the pruning of the trees to minimize interference to the signal of the temporary radar.

Latest update

May 21, 2020 - Aéroports de Montréal has determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Actions will be taken by Nav Canada to mitigate the impacts on flora and fauna. The main measures are detailed as follows: inventory of trees in summer by a biologist to protect vulnerable or endangered species, cutting trees according to the nesting periods of migratory birds, management of invasive alien species and protection of the wetland present in the area.

Therefore, Nav Canada can complete the project.
