WildFire Risk Reduction Project - fuels management at three sites in Gulf Islands National Park Reserve

The Wildfire Risk Reduction Project entails the selective removal, thinning and pruning of trees using fuel management and FireSmart principles to reduce fuel loading. Proposed treatment areas are strategically located within the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve in order to reduce the wildfire risk to park properties, adjacent residents and island communities, while also providing safer work areas for firefighters in the event of an wildland/urban interface fire. Project locations include Tumbo Island (north edge of wetland), Saturna Island (Mt. Warburton Pike summit, parking lot area) and North Pender Island (south of Roe Lake, adjacent to the Park Reserve boundary). Project work is proposed for mid-January to mid-March 2020.

*Location Latitude and Longitude are for the Pender Island site.
