Gordon Island Shoreline Stabilization
This project will involve stabilization of a highly eroded shoreline on Gordon Island. Wave action combined with recent record high water levels has resulted in erosion of soil, undercutting of banks and vegetation destabilization/washout at the project site. Work will consist of preparation of approximately 20m of shoreline (fixing undercutting and removal of debris), placement of geotextile cloth over full area to be protected, placement of 10"-20" angular stone on cloth and sloping at 3:1 to tie into existing shoreline. Typical depth at upland limits will be 0.6m +/-. Shoreline preparation will be completed by use of hand tools. Delivery and placement of stone will be done through use of a backhoe, operated from an in-water barge. Minor adjustments of placed stone will be done by hand. Work at the site is planned to be completed by mid-December, 2019. This project will be assessed with a Basic Impact Assessment.
