Joint Review Panel - Public Hearing Extended for Deep Geologic Repository Project

October 1, 2013 - The Joint Review Panel for the Deep Geologic Repository Project for Low and Intermediate Level Radioactive Waste (DGR) has altered the schedule for the public hearing and included additional hearing days.

The Panel has decided that the session on licensing, permits and authorizations will no longer be held on October 8, 2013.  In order to dedicate more time to this topic, this session will be held on October 28, 29 and 30 as follows:

The Panel has decided that the session of Monday October 7, 2013 will continue the discussion of public health and the session of Thursday October 10, 2013, will be focused on the topic of willing-host community. No session will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013. A revised schedule of presenters for week 4 of the hearing will be released by the Panel as soon as it is finalized.

The live webcast of the public hearing can be accessed through the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission website. Written transcripts are being posted to the public registry as soon as they are available each day. Simultaneous translation of the oral proceedings is available in French and English.

Documents submitted or generated as part of the review, including the hearing schedule and hearing procedures, are considered public and posted on the online public registry, reference number 17520.

Within 90 days of the close of the review record, the Joint Review Panel will submit an environmental assessment report to the federal Minister of the Environment outlining its conclusions, rationale and recommendations. Subject to the Government of Canada's decision, the Panel may then be authorized to make a decision on the application for a Licence to Prepare a Site and Construct the DGR.
