September 5, 2013 - The Joint Review Panel for the Deep Geologic Repository Project for Low and Intermediate Level Radioactive Waste (DGR) has released a revised schedule of presenters for the public hearing. A daily agenda containing the list of presenters will be available each hearing day.

The public hearing will begin on Monday September 16, 2013, at 1:00 pm and will be held in the following locations:

  • September 16 to October 5, 2013
    Royal Canadian Legion

On the first day of the hearing, opening statements will be made by the Panel Chair, by the Saugeen Ojibway Nations, by Ontario Power Generation and by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). Government representatives and participants that have registered will make oral presentations at various sessions throughout the hearing. Time permitting, members of the public who have not already done so may have the opportunity to register at the hearing to make a brief oral statement.

On subsequent days of the hearing, two sessions will be held each day, either in the morning (9:00 am to 12:30 pm) and afternoon (2:00 pm to 5:00 pm) or in the afternoon and evening (7:00 pm to 10:00 pm). Modifications to the schedule will be reflected on the daily agenda, where possible.

Topics that will be addressed over the course of the hearing include, but are not limited to: atmospheric environment, terrestrial environment, human health, geology, aquatic biota and habitat, the management of nuclear waste and socio-economic issues.

Any person may attend the public hearing as an observer. The public hearing will give participants the opportunity to hear about the project and its potential environmental effects and to provide their views to the Panel. The hearing will also allow the proponent to present an overview of the project.

The public hearing will be webcast live through the CNSC website. Written transcripts will be posted to the public registry as soon as they are available each day. Simultaneous translation of the oral proceedings will be available in French and English.

Documents submitted or generated as part of the review, including the hearing schedule and hearing procedures, will be considered public and posted on the online public registry, reference number 17520.
