The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed to carry out airfield repair activities at 12 Wing Shearwater. The repair activities will span several years. 2022-2023 activities will include removal of concrete pavement, placement and compaction of a gravel base, and installation of new asphalt pavement at select locations on Ramp 1; foreign object debris check asphalt extensions at TACAN Road, Raptor Way, and Uniform Road; and repainting of all existing and new surfaces in the airfield. 2023-2024 to 2025-2026 activities will include additional removal of concrete pavement, placement and compaction of a gravel base, and installation of new asphalt pavement at select locations on Ramp 1, and foreign object debris check asphalt extensions on gravel roads at all access points to the runways and taxiways. Milling and replacement of existing asphalt pavement on the final approach and take-off area (FATO) and the Alpha and Foxtrot Taxiways is also proposed. Surplus soils are not anticipated.
