December 18, 2019 – Indigenous Services Canada and Transport Canada have determined that the proposed Northwest Angle 33 First Nation Water Treatment Project – Angle Inlet is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • The development of a new water treatment system ensures that the community will have access to clean drinking water.
  • The construction and maintenance of the system will provide employment and training opportunities to members in the community.
  • All proposed mitigation measures, required permits / approvals and appropriate reviews from delegated authorities have been incorporated into the project design and methodology.

Indigenous Services Canada and Transport Canada are satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
