Notice of Environmental Assessment Determination

Ottawa – October 11, 2012 - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) commenced an environmental assessment for the Hopes Advance Iron Mining Project located near Aupaluk in Nunavik, Quebec.

The Agency determined on October 10, 2012, that a federal environmental assessment is required for the Hopes Advance Iron Mining Project pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012).

In making this determination, the Agency considered the following factors as indicated in Section 10 of CEAA 2012:

  • the description of the Project provided by the proponent,
  • the possibility that the carrying out of the Project may cause adverse environmental effects,
  • any comments received from the public within 20 days, and
  • the results of any relevant study conducted by a committee established under section 73 or 74 of CEAA 2012.
