Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On November 19, 2004, under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required for this project because Public Works and Government Services Canada was the proponent for the project and the National Capital Commission considered providing federal lands for the purpose of enabling this project to be carried out.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

Replacement of centre lane deck slab and boardwalk surface, improvements to superstructure, substructure and piers.

Final Decision

A decision was taken on May 18, 2007 and was that the authorities may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the screening report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and comments from the public, the authorities are of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
