Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On October 6, 2008, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Natural Resources Canada considered providing financial assistance to the proponent.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

BWP Wind Limited Partnership (the Proponent) proposes to develop (the construction, operation and decommissioning) two wind energy generating facilities (the Flat Creek I and Flat Creek II Wind Farms). The projects would be located about 7km northeast of the community of Blenheim, within the Municipality of Chatham Kent, Ontario. Each project is expected to have a 9.9MW capacity with 6 wind turbines. These two projects are being assessed in one environmental assessment due to their geographic proximity to each other. The scope of the project includes the construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning the proposed wind farms, including associated components and activities, such as: access roads, turbine transportation and assembly and connection facilities to the power grid.

Final Decision

The environmental assessment was terminated on October 26, 2010 because a decision had been made to not exercise any power or perform any duty or function referred to in section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act in relation to the project.
