This session will provide participants with an understanding of the legislative and operational requirements of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry established under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

• Individuals responsible for conducting or coordinating environmental assessments (EAs) carried out under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
• Individuals responsible for maintaining and/or contributing records to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry.

Note: This course is not open to the general public. Registration is limited to federal departments, agencies and organizations that have EA responsibilities under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

Participants must have a basic level of knowledge about the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (the Act) and its terminology prior to participating in this session.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency offers several resources that provide an overview of the Act and the federal environmental assessment process. Consult the Agency’s Web site or contact us for further information.

The course will provide participants with:

• practical skills and knowledge about key policies and operations of the Registry;
• guidance on the content to be included in both the project file and Internet site components of the Registry;
• sound principles on the considerations related to maintaining the Registry; and
• hands-on instruction on how to enter and maintain EA information in the Registry Internet site.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

• become familiar with the requirements and best practices of the Registry; and
• conduct a series of practical exercises designed to take participants through the basic tasks associated with establishing and maintaining a Registry during the conduct of a federal environmental assessment.
